1958 was the 100th anniversary of the gold rush & the establishment of British Colombia as a crown colony.
This silver coin is Canada's Fourth commemorative dollar which commemorates the Caribou Gold Rush centenary & the Founding of British Columbia as a British Colony.
A special reverse by Stephen Trenka was used (His initials ST at the bottom right of the totem.). British Columbia is the only area in Canada where First Nations carved, painted & arrected totem poles.
On the obverse side, the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II first appeared on Canadian coins in 1953 at the age of 27. This new effigy ( profile of a young Queen Elizabeth II) was created by Mary Gillick.
