$1 2008 100 Years Australia's Coat of Arms M Privymark

Continuing the celebration of the Centenary of Australia’s Original Coat of Arms the Royal Australian Mint has released the 'M' privy mark (previously referred to as the ‘M’ Melbourne mintmark) which is the final coin to feature the privy mark series for 2008.  This mark signifies that the coin has been struck using a die that has been modified to include a letter which commemorates a special release or event. In this case a ‘M’ is struck on the coin to signify Melbourne, Australia. The coin itself however is produced at the Royal Australian Mint located in Canberra Australia.
