I started selling melts after someone gave me a few and I was so taken with the concept of the soy wax that I decided to make my own.I have always burned smellies: oil in water, crystals and incense, but each are messy in their own way leaving a sticky residue, burned black crystals or a sooty trail of ash to clean up.
Soy wax has none of this!
Not only do they deliver an excellent hot and cold throw (smelling the fragrance in the air) but can be recycled into body oil and hand oil. It’s even great on your feet! Anyway one thing lead to another and here we are! I have had many successful feedbacks with my product because it’s not a matter of just profits for me. I LOVE making these (actually I find it very relaxing) and I want to “spread the word” about soy wax.

…Melts or tarts are an excellent way to fragrance any room.
Simply place in the top of an oil burner, light your tea light underneath, and as the wax melts the scent is released. (Note: do not add water, melts, unlike oils; don't need water to burn evenly.)When the wax cools it will solidify, ready for its next use. The fragrance lasts for many aromatic hours. The wax will not evaporate, (or boil dry, which is dangerous) but the fragrance will fade. When the scent does start to fade replace it by lighting the tea light, slightly melting the wax, and gently slide it out with a tissue or paper towel. The burner is now ready for the next melt! How Simple! No need to mess around with oils, oily paraffin wax or chemicals. The soy wax melt you throw away is 100% biodegradable, and not harmful to the environment.
So why use a soy wax product?
Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. A 30 kilo bushel of raw soy beans is the traditional farm measure. What are the benefits?
Soy's greatest advantage is that it is completely renewable. While the global reserves of oil shrink and paraffin prices increase, the only limit to the soy supply is how much we choose to grow. In addition to sustainability, a well-made soy candle will burn cleanly and slowly. While the performance and beauty of soy candles speak for themselves, soy wax is truly an eco-friendly, biodegradable and sustainable product
Tackling the “Triple scented” and “30 hour” fragrance myths......
Ok
I am sure you have read lots of these adverts claiming “triple
scenting” to boost the idea of more fragrance in a wax melt, plus the
claim that some MELTS give out fragrance for up to and over 8 hours.
Here are a few facts for you to consider when buying fragrance MELTS.
1.More scent or fragrance oil does not mean more aroma.
Just like there are different grades of fuel, there are also different
grades of fragrance oils. Some contain more "fragrance" and some
contain more "fillers".
2.The
true secret to "scent throw" as it is called in the candle industry, is
the burn quality. The scent is "thrown" from the wax pool that is
created.
3.Each fragrance has different "throw" qualities, and just "triple scenting" does not mean more fragrance.
By using pure fragrances, and balancing the fragrance oil and wax
carefully, I can create a great scent throw that is better than others
and which will not cause headaches or asthma problems that can occur by
over scenting.
4.If a melt is “triple scented” it will NOT release a bit of fragrance each hour and spin that out for 20, 30, 50 hours.
The fragrance is released rather like a pot of boiling water. As the
melt is heated, the perfume is released, just as a pot boils, and water
turns to steam. A boiling pot does not boil a little bit and release
steam every now and then as it boils. Steam is released continuously until you take it off the heat or until it boils away. Perfume releases from a melt the same way!
5.I have done some research and I find that a melt can ONLY give out fragrance for an extended period of time with the addition of something called “universal additive” for which the write up states “Universal Additive (UA) is a versatile additive that is primarily used in candle making to help fragrance oil bind better to the wax. It also aids in the long-term retention of the scent,
helps reduce mottling, and helps to reduce bubbles in the candle as it
cools. As a bonus, it also adds a nice glossiness to candles.”
This is one of those “fillers” I referred to, and I therefore suggest
that anyone offering MELTS with the claim that they give out fragrance
for a number of hours over and above the norm, is probably using this
additive and therefore not selling a “soy” melt at all but rather a soy and additive melt which is therefore not a natural product.
6.If
you are one of those folk who get headaches from scented candles and
MELTS, chances are you have a candle with this universal additive in
it! Too much scent will give you a headache and ruin the whole soy
effect.
7.Scented
candles CAN give out fragrance for a sustained period as the scent
throw is from the pool of wax created when the wax MELTS. With each
lighting of the candle, wax is burned off, creating a new pool of wax
with each burning.
Lazy Dragon Soy melts are all designed and tested to burn properly, creating a safe, clean, and aromatic melt.. My clam shell melts will give out fragrance for up to 3 hours per block, which makes a clamshell last about 18 hours depending on whether the fragrance is a soft one, such as lily of the valley, or a strong one such as Dragons Blood. After that the scented oil will have been released and it is time to change the melt.
NOW my melt can be used as a hand cream or massage oil as it has NO ADDITIVES.
THE FRAGRANCE RELEASED BY HEATING THE MELT, WILL HANG IN THE AIR FOR UP TO 3 DAYS.

So how is soy wax made?
