Balance and confidence is not just for beginners.  Some of those big moving horses can be very hard to sit you know!  Confidence and balance go hand in hand.   As the beginner's balance grows, so does their confidence.

As the Olympic level Eventer's confidence grows and grows they get better balance, take the shorter options.  As a Grand Prix dressage rider's balance develops, their tempis are straighter, their pirouettes don't grind or swing out, and their passage piaffe transition wont look like you got "left behind"  *smile*.
