Mace 13th century England

The use of maces go way back to the Stone Age. Also it must be mentioned that Maces are extremely effective against most types of armour which is why they have been popular over a long period of history. This little beauty was made using a technique called "Lost Wax Casting". A technique which goes back to atleast the Viking Era. It is made out of Brass which was becoming more popular during the 13th Century as a general use metal.

Suitable for reenactment combat.

Mace 13th c England - Side View

It is light weight at just 130 grams. Measures (across the points) 58mm wide x 28mm high. The hole is 25mm in diameter. Photos are larger than the item. You can use a rake handle from any hardware store to fit it.

I have made it to the same size as the original. There are 6 Large points and 6 smaller points on the top and bottom of the larger ones.

Mace 13th c England - Top View The hole has a slight taper for the use of a wedge in the handle to stop it from coming off the end. This is fitted the same way as you would for an axe handle. The wall thickness for the hole is a solid 3mm.
Original 13th c English Mace

This original was found in England & is dated to the 13th Century. I have also found pictures of other mace heads which are very similar in design and pre-date it. One very similar to this is from the 12th Century.

*As far as I am aware N.S.W. & VIC laws require that you have a Restricted Weapons License to own a mace. If you are a member of a reenactment club it is easy to obtain.  Maces may also be prohibited in some states of the U.S. Please check your local laws before bidding. I will update this when I get more info.

Don't forget to check my other auctions. I have so far sold to most states in Australia,  United States, United Kingdom & France.

I also have a Facebook page up, just search for Errant Knight for the latest items and news.
