| FOLDING BIKES ALLOWED ON TRAINS TRAMS AND BUSES Saturday, 05 April 2008 |
| Source: http://www.premier.vic.gov.au
More cyclists will be able to combine their bike and bus, tram or train journey from Monday with the release of guidelines allowing folding bicycles on public transport.
Minister for Public Transport Lynne Kosky, said the new guidelines were in addition to rules allowing bicycles on the last carriage of Connex and all carriages of V/Line trains.
“More commuters are combining their bike journey with public transport and many bike owners are investing in folding bicycles,” Ms Kosky said.
“It was important that we cater for their needs, which is why we have worked closely with Bicycle Victoria, the Cycling Promotion Fund and the Retail Cycle Traders Association to develop these guidelines.”
The guidelines allow for folding bicycles to be carried on all trams, buses and train carriages provided they are folded and stowed in a bag that doesn’t exceed the dimensions of 79cm long x 59cm high x 36cm wide.
Regular bikes still need to be carried on the last carriage of Connex trains.

| Why need a folding bike? Easy to Carry, Easy to Reach! |
|
Folding bikes used to be crude, heavy, hard to ride, slow to fold, and once in a while they collapsed in a heap. But in the early '90s that all changed as rail operators and airlines began to tighten restrictions on bike carriage. Fortunately, bikes that could be treated as hand luggage continued to travel free, and so the concept of a super-compact folding bike caught on. Today there are more than 50 folding bikes, and thanks to developments in small tyre technology and frame materials, the weight, ride quality and performance of the best is similar to that of their rigid cousins. Folding bikes offer five primary advantages over conventional machines:
- Free & unrestricted carriage on public transport
- Almost thief proof
- Space-saving at home and elsewhere
- Multi-modal travel (such as rail/folding bike) is usually cheaper than a car
- High resale value

| Why choose Yeah bike? Dahon Licensed Technology Guarantee, Qualifty folding bike at Affordable price |
|
Being a licensee of Dahon, Yeah bike will have the right to use numerous, unique Dahon technologies. These superior innovations and designs put Yeah bike at the forefront of other folding bicycle competitors.
Yeah Folding bicycles are built at Dahon's ISO 9001 approved factory. The R&D department pump out a steady stream of innovative designs that are rigorously tested to ensure compliance with CPSC, JIS, DIN and all other international standards.
Dahon's been building folding bikes for over 25 years and has one of the most well-respected and prolific research and development teams in the bicycle industry. Dahon Folding Bicycles is led by Dr. David Hon, a global authority on laser physics and holder of over 100 patents and Dahon were pioneers to develop a truly portable folding bicycle that could be quickly folded and carried anywhere.

Dahon Licensed Technology:
| AutoLokTMLatch

This good-looking latch is simple to operate and secures the two halves of the bicycle to click latch in an instant
|
Chubbs Head Tube

Most folding bikes lack stiffness at the front end. These bikes would have handlebars and stems that flex alarmingly when pushed or pulled. We resolved the problem by lengthening and enlarging the diameter of the head tube, which makes the front end more stiff and rigid. |
ClikLok™ Latch

The flip of a single lever folds and unfolds the bicycle. The "click" sound tells you the lock is in place. Another safety hook keeps the lever in place to ensure double locking safety.
|
|
PowerBulge™ Tubing PowerBulge™ frame tubing is manipulated so that it bulges vertically as it approaches the head tube. This results in a frame that is substantially stiffer on the vertical plane, where the front end of the bike is most stressed. An additional benefit is that the frame tube also narrows as it approaches the head tube, allowing a more compact fold. Dahon patented technology. |
PortaWheel

When the bike is in its folded position, our riders can flip out a third wheel, which enables them to push the bike along with great ease.
|
QuikFold™ Telescope Handlepost

This handlepost allows riders of all heights to adjust the handlebar to the desirable height. A patented, threadless locking mechanism hides the latch inside the hinge, making the base very clean and streamlined
|
| Re-Bar™ Technology

Patented Re-Bar™ technology is a break-through frame technology that delivers strength and stiffness while maintaining low weight. The ingenious Re-Bar™ structural support effectively turns a monotube frame into a much stronger, triangulated frame. Many of the mono-tube folding frame designs on the market do not pass international standards for frame strength
|
WrapAround™ Chain Stays

Most folding bikes have very poor torsional stiffness in the bottom bracket. Our patented WrapAround™ technology wraps the chain stays around the seat post and welds them directly to the bottom bracket. The result is a dramatically stiffer bottom bracket for better power transfer
|
ViseGrip™ Latch

In engineering jargon, our ViseGrip™ latching mechanisms have an exceptionally high degree of mechanical advantage. What this means is that they require little force to operate but are exceptionally strong when locked down. Our aluminum ViseGrip™ latch is forged into a beautifully smooth and sculpted shape that fits your hand perfectly. On the hinge, we have a stainless steel hinge pin and brass bushings between moving parts for a silky smooth folding action. Our steel ViseGrip™ gets the same shape but in stainless steel for improved strength and durability

Cubic weight is calculated by measuring and multiplying the length, height and width of the parcel. The result is then multiplied by the cubic weight conversion factor of 250, e.g. a parcel measuring 40cm long (0.4m) x 20cm high (0.2m) x 30cm wide (0.3m) is equal to 0.024 cubic metres. The cubic volume multiplied by a conversion factor of 250 gives the cubic weight of 6kg. ie. 0.4 x 0.2 x 0.3 = 0.024 x 250 = 6kg. If the physical weight is 4kg, postage would be assessed on the basis of the cubic weight of 6kg. |

| Folding Instruction |
|
| Step 1
Prepare to fold your bicycle by standing on the side with the chain. The chain and crank will be in front of you. |
 |
| Step 2
Move the stem into the folding position. The stem should be extended far enough that the handlebars sit just under the wheel axles when the handle post is folded. |
 |
| Step 3
Rotate the stopper hook away from the handle post latch. |
 |
| Step 4
Unlock the handle post latch by pulling it away from the handle post. |
 |
| Step 5
Swing the handle post into the folded position: upside down and flush against the front wheel. Be sure the front wheel stays parallel to the frame. When folded properly, the handlebars should sit just below the wheel axle.
Note: On some models the handle post folds to the outside. |
 |
| Step 6
Open the seat post quick-release. Lower the seat post. Twist the saddle 45 degrees to the left.Close the quick release. |
 |
| Step 7
Rotate the cranks so that the left crank is pointed forward and down at a 15 degree angle. |
 |
| Step 8
Move the frame latch safety hook to the open position. ( Note: Your frame latch safety hook may be in a slightly different position than shown in the picture above.) |
 |
| Step 9
Open the frame latch lever. |
 |
| Step 10
Swing the front and rear halves of the frame closely, and then swing the front half of the frame back until the two wheels are parallel. |
 |
Incorrect |
Correct |
| Incorrect: Saddle is incorrectly position and is butting up against the handle post.
Correct:When you twist the saddle 45 degrees to the left, there should be some space between saddle and the Quick-release lever. |
| Step11
Snap the folding pedal(s) into the folded position by pushing the pedal body inwards and rotating downwards. |
 |
| Step 12
Your bicycle is now ready for easy transportation or storage. |
