This auction is for my Green's Connecticut Annual Register, and United States Calendar for 1841 to which is prefixed an Almanac. On the cover it says: containing also ecclesiastical lists, town officers, corporate institutions for literary and religious purposes, statistical tables, and a variety of other interesting articles. My book says it is No. 51, published by Samuel Green in East Windsor and sold by all the booksellers in the state. It was printed by Case, Tiffany and Burnham of Pearl St. in Hartford.
It is a small book, 5-3/8" by 3-1/2" by 1/2" thick. It is complete, with the last page of the index being 174. After the last index page is an un-numbered page that has 6 ads on it. It has all of the standard almanac information plus quite a bit more. There are tide charts, road distances, court calendars, and every conceivable official is listed. The voting for Ct. governor by town is detailed. State, town and county officials are listed. All members of Connecticut's militia are listed. Connecticut companies have detailed information, banks have provided information and educational institutions have provided complete information. The federal government was small enough so that not only can individual officials be listed, their salary is too! Martin Van Buren was president, for example, and earned $25,000. This little almanac is an intersting window into the past.
Overall condition: the binding is sound. It is a sewn binding. No pages are loose. The cover has darkened appreciably and there is some spotting. There is a tear on the back cover and one on the front where a crease has broken free. Corners have curled, some are folded and some of the pages are rippled. One inside page is darker than the rest. All in all, I would describe its condition as good-not very good but better than fair.
All of my items are as I describe them. If you feel otherwise, please tell me. I will cheerfully refund your money but I can't do that unless you speak up. No one has ever returned anything or left negative feedback, so I think it is only fair that you talk to me if you are disappointed in any way. I want you to be satisfied!
If you are the winner of more than one of my auctions, I will be happy to combine your items so that you will not have to pay shipping twice.
