1856 TYPE I SYDNEY MINT GOLD HALF SOVEREIGN IN VF
Great obverse at a fraction of the price of an 1855!
A lovely example of the only Type I half sovereign available to mortal collectors.
The discovery of gold in Australia in 1851 led to the first branch of the Royal Mint being established in Sydney in 1855. The rapidly growing population and economy of New South Wales and Victoria had an almost unquenchable thirst for gold coinage.
So heavily used were the very first half sovereigns struck at the Sydney Mint in 1855 that hardly any of these historic coins remain in existence today. Perhaps just 50 have been sighted on the open market in the past 30 years, and even the most heavily worn examples trade for more than $20,000 apiece.
The 1856 by contrast is more accessible by the average collector - still rare in superior condition, it is always in demand with collectors seeking to obtain a type coin at a reasonable price.
This coin obviously circulated to some degree, however it certainly remains quite an attractive example. It has plenty of detail in Victoria's hairline, while all of the major design elements on the reverse remain clear.
Condition guaranteed in writing, we are members of ANDA and are bound by a strict code of conduct. Full refund provided within 7 days of receipt if you are not 100% satisfied.
Postage (which can be combined) includes full insurance coverage until you sign for it, don't hesitate to email with any questions, feel free to check my other listings for other items of this calibre.
