1861 JOHNSTON PA TO POULTNEY VT LETTER WITH COVER

Up for auction is a vintage lettr with cover that was mailed from Johnston, Pennsylvania, and addressed to Chauncy Ward, Poultney, Vermont.  Cover opened rough at left, has edge wear, tear staining, .  Letter is 4 pages in length, is datelined Near Johnston, Sept., 21, 1861.  Letter was between brothers, and written by Obidiah Ward.  Letter is of a personal and family nature.  part of letter the writer tells about the death of, I believe a son of his) Cylon, or Ceylon, at the Battle of Pittsburgh Landing.  Writer mentions how some of his comrades wrote to Obidian, as did his Captain, regretting his death, but talking about his gentlemanly ways.  he also says that an artice was written in one of the county papers, by someone who had witnessed the Battle of Pittsburgh Landing,  complimenting the men from Obidiah's Home County, and especially Ceylon, tho writer says this doesn;t make good the loss I had.  Writer mentions "going on" dealing with the loss, as tough as it is.  Writer mentions that Railroads are still manufactured on an extensive scale in the Johnston area .Letter goes on about other family members.  This Civil War Era is relatively easy to read.            ********MULTIPLE AUCTION WINNERS::::::::Please wait until I send an invoice before paying.  The shipping charges on multiple auctions paid for at once usually gets screwed up, unless I send an invoice out first**********
