1890's Westminster Grandfather Clock w/ German Movement in a Carved Oak Tall Case

This is a museum-quality ornately carved Tallcase Westminster Grandfather Clock, circa 1890, that has German-made movement driven by two brass weights with a single pendulum and pull-chain wind all set in an open casing.  

The intricately engraved brass and gilded clock face is 13” in diameter with Arabic numerals and has a painted moon-phase dial above the clock face. Glazed glass panels surround the sides and door of the bonnet exposing the intricate clock mechanism.

The entire clock face is set within a handsome heavily carved oak bonnet and is framed by two carved busts of classical female figures and topped by an ornate brass dragon spitting fire.

Below the towering bonnet is an intricately oak-carved open frame that provides an easy view of the two brass weights and single pendulum.  On either side of the weights, appearing as if to guard the clock, is a carved brass lion sitting atop a clawed foot.  In the middle of the front panel of the heavily carved oak base appears the face of a grimacing dog.

This magnificent clock strikes on the half-hour and hour sounding a melodious cathedral gong and declaring each hour of the day.  To keep this treasure in proper working condition it has been serviced on occassion by a well-regarded antique clock repairman.
