Bidding has ended on this item. Item:1947 GEC Electric (not sad) Travelling/Travel Iron; Box |
|
|
A variety of folding travel irons similar to this were produced but I think this one by GEC, The General Electric Co Ltd, was probably one of the first. It certainly has a more interesting box - the forerunner of plastic and leather cases. Information in the lid tells us that it is catalogue number D5827, it weighs 3 pounds and consumption is 300 watts. "Raise handle to upright position and push forward the hinged bracket at rear of handle support, so that the U-shaped slot locks handle. Ascertain the voltage on which the iron is to be used...." Diagrams show how the connector should be placed according to the voltage. Hints on using the iron follow, bearing in mind that there is no thermostat. These instructions were reprinted in 1947 so a similar iron must have been in use before that. Photographs should say all but please ask if you need to know more. The base of the iron is 20.5cm x 9cm and the total height when the handle is up is 12cm. Please note: I am selling this as a collector's item. It has not been tested and is not intended for use. Postage will be £7.50 in the UK. I am happy to mail overseas but it is heavy. The most economical way to send it would probably be in two parcels as that is often less expensive than sending one parcel over 2 kilos in weight. Please ask if you would like to know. Payment by personal cheque or PayPal from a buyer in the UK please. An international buyer must use PayPal. |
