NOTES FOR TEACHERS

The revised Adelaide Primer 1 and 1A are for the use of those who wish to teach Reading by the phonic method.

They contain the amended course in Phonics for Grade 1

“Look and Say” words should be taught by flash-cards.

These should be known before they are met in the text

Reading for meaning should be stressed from the start. To

this end, activities have been suggested on pages 23, 27 and

36. Others should be devised and many pages lend themselves to dramatisation.

Teachers should make more sentences using the words in the book.
