1976 COCOS (KEELING) ISLANDS
SHIPS SET OF 12 STAMPS - MNH
- Stamps are 1976 Cocos (Keeling) Islands 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 15c, 20c, 25c, 30c, 35c, 40c, 50c and $1 Ships.
- An interesting fact about these stamps - The 1c stamp contains an unusual design error in that it depicts the wrong ship. The Cocos Islands were named by Captain William Keeling in 1609. Captain Keeling left London in the Dragon (supposedly depicted on the 1c stamp), one of a convoy of 3 ships bound for the Dutch East Indies. En route the captain of the Hector was lost and Captain Keeling took command of that ship and sent the Dragon back to England. It was from the deck of the Hector that Captain Keeling sighted the Islands, and this is the ship that should have been on the 1c stamp.
- All stamps are pristine MNH.
- This is an attractive set, ideal for collectors of Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Ships, Warships, Yachts, Ocean Liners.
