1976 Series 2, Daimler Double Six. This is a rare car indeed - 1 of only 2500 made by Jaguar in Series 2 model. The Damiler Double 6 was the flagship of the Daimler/Jaguar line, second only to the Vanden Plas models. This one is a long wheel base model. The car has been in storage (under cover) since 1994 and this shows in the quality of the body/chassis.
Mechanicals: The motor is a 5.3 litre V12, fuel injection model. The motor turns but does not fire. The injectors appear fine, but the ignition leads have deteriorated somewhat. The vehicle has completed 76000klms which are original. The suspension is firm and I suspect the springs have been reset at some stage as the vehicle rides with considerable purpose. Cooling rails which run along side of the motor have corroded and cooling system hoses will need replacing (a little time consuming but not an expensive exercise). The auto gear box is a 3 speed Borg Warner. I am led to believe that the limited slip differential in this model is also quite rare. It is in excellent condition. The exhaust system appears almost new, including rear tail pipes.
Panel/Paint: The colour is old english white. When I found this car is was covered in thick layers of dust. Once I washed it I was amazed at the quality and condition of the paint. It is simply exceptional. There is no sign of fading or scratching. The panels are completed straight with not even a shopping trolley dent in them. The doors all open and shut solidly and cleanly. The black vynil roof is intact and again, in exceptional condition. There is no rust beneath it and absolutely no opening for any moisture of water to get into. Series two's are traditionally shockers for rust. This one has faired very well. There is no rust whatsover inside the cabin, the floor pans are intact and solid. The only elements of rust I have detected is a small spot beneath the windscreen on the rear drivers side (you might just be able to see this in the photo of the rear quarter), about a 10 cm length of the lip that supports the boot rubber/seal on the passenger side requires replacing. The front stone guard will require repair and the rear beaver tail (under the rear bumper bar) will need replacing.
Chrome: All chrome on the vehicle is in excellent condition and complete. There is a small dent on the front bumper bar (also visible on the main photo). Chrome wheel centres are free from dents/scratches, however the 4 wheel embelleshers do not match. I planned to scrap these and chrome the rimms as in Vanden Plas Models.
Interior: The interior is blue leather. The rear of all seats have responded very well to leather treatment - no tears or marks in the leather at all, however, the lower sections of the front seats will need recovering. The door cards are as new and show no signs of wear and tear. The blue carpets through out are generally pretty good, with the rear passenger side flooring needing replacement due to vermin. The hood lining has come away near the rear windscreen and again will need replacing. The wood dash and gauges are in good condition but the veneer is showing signs of age. Power windows.
I am reluctantly selling this vehicle. The rarity and condition of it justifies time and relatively small amount of money to be spent on her to have it admmired and enjoyed on the road. In Queensland, this vehicle attracts Special Interest registration concessions which would see it registered and insured for under $300 per year.
Genuine bidders only. No roadworthy with the sale of this vehicle. Vehicle can be viewed in North Brisbane before bidding if desired. Successful bidder to arrange collection of vehicle. Will accept cash or bank cheque on collection. Contact to be made within 3 days of auction end and payment finalised within 7 days. The vehicle is advertised elsewhere so the seller reserves the right to remove the vehicle from auciton if sold before hand.
11.11.2009 - All, have added some additional photos. The interior is as explained above, as stated above the back of the rear seat has responded exeptionally well to some leather treatment, the actual seats sections are showing cracks. I have included shots of some rust (boot rim and front stone guard) and the engive bay. Thanks....
