We love our bus and don't really want to sell it BUT....

Because we don't have the money to do it up for the road at the moment we are willing to take a gamble and sell it for just below what we think it is worth.

Here is the story...

We bought it a few years ago (end 2004) from a dealer who had just got it in from a friend who had it standing in his shed for many years.

It apparently is one of the secondhand buses which came from Japan and did only few kms.

It only has 64,000 on the odometer (no idea if this is a true reading).

We unfortunately drove it on unleaded for a few thousand kms, without thinking that the valves would burn out.

Now it runs weak.

We've been told that the motor needs the top end fixing due to a burned out valve and to do it right you need to convert the motor to run on unleaded and that would cost about a grand.

The other option is to put a good secondhand diesel in it. That could cost up to about two grand.

Other than that there is only some external rust to fix up - nothing major.

The rust probably could be fixed by a professional for under $500 and if done personally, it would cost next to nothing.

We have pulled all the internal wall covering off and painted rust proofing in there.

The cavities double as shelves now.

The only places there is rust, is along the seams on the roof, around some rain gutters near the doors and some panel areas.

The paint is fair and when washed comes up nice.

The pictures here are of an unwashed bus which has now been standing for about 2 years under a tarp in the bush at our place.

We have gutted the inside and put 2 comfortable car seats in the front. There are 2 more bus seats behind those and one side flip seat.

Technically it is an 11 seater bus if you count the benches around the table at the back.

We have put belts on the front 4 seats but you will have to get the official papers on those.

There are some shelves and a very cool king size bed which converts to a table and bench seats.

The body is good and tires fair. Breaks, lights etc. were all fine when we last tried them a year ago.

This bus is so much fun to drive as it is light and has windows all around, making parking and reversing real easy.

It actually feels like a big car after a while as it is from bumper to bumper the length of one car park space (6m).

It is also the largest vehicle you can drive on a standard car license.

It is unregistered, so you will have to reregister it.

At least that gives you plenty of time to renovate it at your own leisure before you have to pay rego.

Because of its endearing shape and age, It gets a lot of admiration from others when you travel!

We hope it will go to a good home!

Happy bidding.

PS: When you have finished your trip around Australia and no longer need it, please give us first option to buy it back!

PSS: If you are buying from overseas with the plan to come to Australia to travel, we can assist you to get it fixed by moving to a nearby garage repair station. Once there, you can deal with the garage directly. We think it should be ready for the road for the price of around AU$2000-3000.

Q: Hi, Is the bus able to be driven, and if so do you think it would make the trip to Victoria if it had the appropriate permit? Craig
A: Hi Craig, the bus works but I would not drive it more than a few kms with the motor the way it is. It would be to weak to climb hills and you would not get more than 60km/hr out of it at the best. Having said that, it would... Continue reading
