Measurements: 19" (48 cm) tall

This superb spelter statue of Cupid, with gorgeous dark brown patination, is entitled L'AMOUR VAGABOND, and has a medallion mark on the underside of the globe, which states: "Fabrication Francaise, Made in France, Paris". The statue is set on top of a dark green marble base, and has an applied plaque entitled "L'AMOUR VAGABOND Par Bruchon".

Circa: 1890-1900
Condition: Very Good. Very nice dark brown patination, which, as the photos suggest, can turn a lighter hue in bright light. No obvious signs of damage or wear. There is, what appears to be, some black paint applied around the ankle of the left leg, which is showing uneven wear, but it is hard to say if  this was originally some kind of ribbon or band-like device, which the artist added, or if there was some damage, and the black was used to conceal the repair. In any event, it is not all that noticeable. There is no arrow, and I do not think there ever was one, as I think the idea being communicated, is that the arrow is already in flight, or reached its intended target. The bow has a piece of twisted wire attached, to form a string. Again, I do not know if the bow ever had a string, but I do suspect that this wire was attached by someone at a later date, and the bow was originally without any string device. There are a few little marks here and there, suggesting some very minor wear to the finish, but otherwise, this statue is in outstanding condition.

Emile Bruchon (works from 1880-1910) was a well known French sculpture, and his works can be found displayed in the magnificent four volume reference series, "Abage Encyclopedia, Bronzes Sculptors & Founders 1800-1930 by Harold Berman". The patina on this spelter statue is spectacular, indicating the quality of the casting. It is museum quality, and will certainly be a treasure in any collection. This could be the ulimate way to express your love to someone, on Valentine's Day.
