China’s Terracotta Army is one of the marvels of the ancient world. When it recently visited the British Museum in London, it proved to be one of the most popular exhibits in its history. Created over 2,200 years ago in Xian, China, the Army consisted of thousands of life-size soldiers, horses and other amazing figures. The unusual Terracotta Army commemorative coins from the Isle of Man celebrate both the arrival of the Army in London and the ingenuity of the craftsmen who made the figures. The two stunning designs show how a Terracotta soldier and horse were made over 2000 years ago. The hole in the centre is a tribute to the Chinese coins that circulated at the time the Terracotta Army was originally assembled, these were referred to as Banliang Coins. The Terracotta Army will live forever, but the coins are limited editions that will soon disappear.
