The Catalyst 2950-24 Switch provides (24) RJ-45 ports for 10/100BaseTX auto-negotiating connections. With its trim, 1RU form factor, this unit can be flexibly deployed either on a desktop or else mounted in a wiring closet. The Catalyst 2950 Series delivers superior LAN/Edge QoS, supporting two modes of reclassification. Based on 802.1p standards, mode one honors Class-of-Service (CoS) values ingress points and assigns packets to appropriate queues. In mode two, should untagged frames arrive, the Catalyst 2950 supports classification based on default CoS values assigned per (ingress) port. Conversely, the Catalyst 2950 supports four egress queues, allowing for especially discriminating and granular priority assignment for a diverse range of LAN applications. Strict configuration of Priority Scheduling enables certain time-sensitive applications (e.g. Voice) to unerringly follow the most expeditious path through the switch fabric. Weighted Round Robin scheduling, another big enhancement, ensures that lower-priority traffic receives suitable attention without compromising your pre-defined priority settings. All of these features allow network administrators to prioritize mission-critical traffic ahead of less time-sensitive applications such as FTP or e-mail. The Catalyst 2950 supports LAN multicasting via IGMP Snooping. Cisco's Cluster Management Suite is embedded, Web-based software (GUI) that enables management of up to (16) Catalyst 2950/ 3550-12T/3500 XL/2900 XL, and/or 1900 switches at once, regardless of geographic proximity, using a single IP address. To maximize the performance of your Cisco hardware, Cisco strongly recommends Cisco SMARTnet Support.
