Although this is not a book per se it has to be the find of the month! How this one monthly publication (magazine) has managed to stay intact for 180 years is a feat in itself and the detail and hard work that went in to producing the colour illustrations is simply superb.

Each of the colour plates are new fashion releases for the month of January 1829 and then each piece is described in detail. We even find out that "Mrs. Bell's Patent Corsets are unrivalled, and very superior to all others; they impart an indescribable grace and elegance to the figure." They were at very moderate prices too apparently!

The fashion news of the day makes excellent reading as it includes reports and comments from many countries around the world so it gives a you a very clear picture of what's happening in the world of Fashion in 1829. Great read, great find!

This book is a must have for anyone studying fashion! It describes in great detail the fashion of the day from 594AD through to 1897 including illustrations on just about every page. A great reference piece.

Another great book on fashion through the ages. It goes back a long, long way, 1786 to be exact.
