Up for auction are five (5) tokens for the Sydney Monorail tokens.
Manufactured for the TNT Darling Harbour Monorail by the Royal Australian Mint in 1987, these token are part of a hoard that was originally used to program and test the coin mechanisms at the monorail stations as they were being installed. Most have an image of the monorail on the obverse and a Kookaburra on the reverse (I suspect the RAM used an existing die to fulfill the contract, so collectors may recognize the Kookaburra design from an official RAM coin release). The rest have an inscription commemorating Australia's bicentenary in 1988 (see pic).
Also, these are still valid for a trip on the monorail! If you're not a collector, why not put them aside for a school holidays outing (or even for just a quick trip from the CBD to the Pyrmont side of Darling Harbour)?
Since a ride usually costs $4.80, these are just $3.99 each at the Buy It Now price. Oh, and postage is free too. Score!
I have a total of 40 available, so please contact me though the eBay messaging system if you're after more or have any questions.
