50 watt per channel class B stereo power amp in beautiful blackwood case
The amp modules are based on the circuit published in Electronics Australia in January 1989, which in turn was based on an Hitachi amp circuit from the 1960s. The current limiting feature in the original circuit has been left out to lower distortion, instead a separate electronic DC fault detection and de thump module has been added. See photo for the circuit as built.
Dual mono block construction - each amp has its own separate power supply giving +/- 40 volts at 2 amps. The aluminium chassis contains the complete stereo amp and can be removed from the case by undoing 2 bolts. There is plenty of room in the chassis for further experimentation. The heatsinks are large enough to take 120w amps
The case was an old instrument case made from blackwood with finger jointed sides. It has been restored and polished to a smooth gloss finish. It has a small glass window on the top
Measured power output is just over 55 watts into 8 ohms
