This auction is for a new 500GB portable USB external drive.

Inside the smart metallic blue enclosure is a Hitachi Travelstar SATA 2.5" 500GB drive with 12ms typical seek time and a 8MB Buffer.

With 500GB of storage space and the latest 3Gb/s SATA standard interface, you won't be disappointed with the performance of this drive.

This drive comes complete with USB cable and a handy slipcase. The USB cable even allows you to use two USB ports for those laptops that cannot generate sufficient power from one port. This drive will operate at USB 2.0 speeds where available, but is also backward compatible with the older USB 1.0 standard.

For Windows XP and Vista users, drivers for this device are already built in to Windows - just plug in and you are ready to go. We even NTFS format the drive for you so there is no messing around in Disk Management initialising and formatting the drive before you can get down to work.

The great thing about using a 2.5" drive for an external drive is that - unlike a 3.5" drive - it can be powered from a USB port, so you don't need an external power unit. This makes for a highly portable storage unit that will comfortably fit in a shirt pocket or handbag.

This drive is approx 125 x 75 x 12mm and weighs less than 200g!

These drives are great for backups (you do backup your data, don't you?) or for transferring data between computers. I like to keep current projects on an external drive so I can work on them whatever computer I am sitting at. I also have a bunch of MP3 files on there so I can plug in some headphones to the computer and have some sounds while I work.
