In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of decimal currency, Mint designer Horst Hahne reproduced the merino ram head that originaly appeared on Australia's pre-decimal shilling. The merino design not only acknowledges the contribution of the Australia wool industry to this country's developement but equally serves as a unique reminder to Australia's pre-decimal days. This variety is a very scarce coin with only 4,704,400  were minted for circulation. Very rare to find these days and it will be harder to come by in the future with so less mintage and value will sure to raise as years go by. It has been taken from circulation and still in a very nice circulated condition.
