I consider my nappies a slimfit design! I was tired of the bulky nappies that look awkward and were uncomfortable for my daughters! These are lightweight and slimfit just like a disposable! I do use boosters at night and if I am going in to town and don't want to change their nappies often. The advantages of cloth nappies far outway the disposable culture that we have today! With ever increasing interest rates, groceries and fuel costs this is one way to easily and safely save money in your back pocket! Each Nappy has an outer layer of fabric with the pattern, 4 layers of absorbing flannalette material for high absorption and inner flannalette fleece material that lies against your babies skin for optimum comfort and flexibility for your baby! I would like to emphasise that there are MANY different PUL fabrics - and they are not all backed onto a terry toweling base! As I designed a slimfit nappy - I did not want the terry toweling base which after repeated washing becomes heavy and bulky. Mine is a flannel backed material that has been specially sent away and backed with the Polyurethane Laminate. There is currently a common misconception that I have come across that PUL is only one type of fabric - this is incorrect - it can be applied to any material that the persons wishes it is simply just a waterproof laminate. If you are wanting to use cloth nappies full time - I recommend atleast 18 nappies. This is a good number because they do tend to go through between 6-8 wet nappies a day. If you allow yourself two ashing days which is 16 nappies and then give yourself a spare one for a night and another for an extra poo - that should get you through to only having to wash them every third morning! However I pop mine in the washing machine every night before I go to bed and then hang them out each morning!
CARE OF PUL; This is a fabric that has been treated with a coating to make it waterproof. It has a small amount of breathability. DO NOT!!!! - Soak your PUL made items in bleach. e.g napisan, nappy soakers - Tumble dry for long periods, short tumble dries occasionally are fine - Use vinegar in washes as it may affect the PUL Suggested washing of your PUL Nappies; Dry pail your nappies. This means to place them in a nappy bucket without anything, just the nappies, boosters etc. Scrape any solids into the loo, or use a tool such as the Little squirt, this greatly reduces the incidence of staining. Nappies, boosters etc can be washed in a normal cycle in your washing machine, throwing in any other items of clothing. You can use normal clothes washing detergent. Line Drying in the sun will get off any stains that may remain. Line drying will also prolong the lifestyle of nappies.
