me! ? Me Who, Me, Eric Mcchanson, I assembled Hi Fi amps from the 60s – rich experience both in audio valve circuit and amp making. My Guitar Amp Experience ?  I recall some 40 years ago, I wound wires around magnets to make "pickups" and installed them onto, and converted an acoustic guitar into an electric guitar. I also made a guitar amp having a spring-reverb unit (with echo effects, great !!), I played / practiced the first few notes (i.e. went the first few " miles ")  of the " Five Hundred Miles" ( 500 miles? really hard to reach ). The guitar strings cut my fingers, .... it was painfull..... and later, ....  I did not continue... - what a shame....... Guitar amps are different from Hi Fi Amps in which Guitar amps manage and accept distortion enrichments, while Hi Fi Amps on the other hand, try to avoid distortion.... I have completed about a dozen of various guitar amps recently.

guitarE Amps* is the name given to those guitar amps made by me, using suitable new & recycled ( better word : revived, transformers in most cases) parts. Customized to the required power, size and controls / facilities. If you may wish to have a different configuration from the one on auction, please contact me to see if I can make you one.

This is a made to order auction. I shall make for the winner, and deliver in about 2 weeks after settlement a guitarE Amp as described below.

6BQ5 / EL84 PP guitarE Amp : 

This guitarE Amp is with a 6BQ5 / EL84 Push Pull (PP)  output stage delivering about 18W power in Tetrode mode, about 5W in Triode mode, switchable between. The completed amp may look similar to (but may differ) as shown in the picture. Front panel : (ONE) Input, Gain, Tone (BMT), Master Volume, Pentode/Triode, Standby, AC main switches. Real panel 4, 8, 16 ohm speaker output, Fuse socket & AC power cable. I shall source suitable (New or revived) irons and shall use New or Strong Used tubes : 1 x rectifier 6V4, 2 x 6BQ5 (or NEW Russian Reflector 6P15P) , 2 x 12AX7.  All other parts are new and the amp will be newly built using traditional Hi Fi amp construction method - point to point soldering.

 

The amp can be used as standalone "head" or winner may make a speaker cabinet to house the amp to form a compo. The amp suits for 240V AC main, for other voltage AC main, please enquire first before bidding for me to source the right power transformer. Size (in mm) : 342 (W), 125 (D), 52 (H). 130 (H, overall).

 

I may entertain requests for some minor modification / addition to the amp, subject a small charge if needed, please enquire before bidding.

 

Option 1 : Winner may change to use 6V6GT (14W/5W) instead of 6BQ5, No extra charge.

 

Option 2 : Winner may adopt the hardware to opt to make it a Fender 5E3 clone, i.e. with added full (BMT) Fender tone stack, 5E3's PK phase splitter stage, 2 x 6V6 push pull. but need to adopt the 6V4 rectififer instead of the 5Y3GT and change the 12AY7 to a 12AX7 & with gain control, and with ONE input. -   no extra charge. please enquire if you have queries.

Support - I support all amps constructed by me - timE Amp, marzE Amp, revivE Amp & GuitarE Amp. let me know if the amp has problem. I shall service it in the usual term : return to base, reasonable service charge may apply, and add cost of parts as appropriate.
