WHOLESALE CLEARANCE AUCTION – NO RESERVE! MORE PHOTOS: www.classicautosaustralia.com/xj6.html Re-offered for unreserved wholesale auction after a previous bidders failure to communicate is this Australian complied 1974 Jaguar XJ6 Series II 4.2L saloon. A particularly rare example, this XJ is the 3,215th Series II XJ6 saloon built out of a total production run of some 61,441 vehicles, and was within the first 2,000 cars delivered new to Built in 1973, this XJ6 was delivered new to Though the SWB chassis looses a few inches of rear seat legroom, it is a much tighter platform and has become extremely sought-after. This XJ is fitted with air conditioning (all connected and working, though not terribly efficient), power windows, central door locking, power steering and, naturally, full leather trim with timber veneers. The vehicle is also fitted with a set of genuine 15” Jaguar Lattice alloy wheels shod with good BF Goodrich tyres in the CORRECT profile. The XJ6 is believed to have been restored during the earlier part of the 1990’s – a time when upgrading Series I and II XJ’s with Series III components was popular. To that end, this example has benefited from the fitment of Series III tail lamps and boot lid badges and Series III making for quite an attractive vehicle. Now far from new, this classic XJ will represent a unique opportunity for the astute enthusiast or collector to acquire a particularly early example of the evergreen Series II XJ that is actually worth investing further in, though as it is, it does present and drive very nicely. Given the rather subjective nature of older vehicle assessment, your personal inspection is strongly advised. In this way, you may form your own opinions of the car and can judge whether or not it will meet with your expectations. Offered as a guide, my opinions of the car and its condition are as follows: BODY & PAINT: Though now verging on 20 years post-restoration, the pearl white paint work actually remains in good general order, though is of course showing various fairly minor imperfections with a close inspection. The body appears to be quite sound with good panel fit and I cannot locate any evidence of previous accident repair. The paint finish is of a fairly good standard and still holds a nice shine. Needles to say, don’t be fooled – the Jaguar is far from ‘freshly restored’, though it certainly presents well enough to be proud of and is a better looking car than most for sale this side of $10,000. TRIM & INTERIOR: Remains fairly neat and tidy, though of course given the cars age, is certainly not perfect. The hood lining is not sagging though is dirty and really should be replaced while the leather trim is pleasingly sound. The dash veneer is imperfect though replacement facias are cheap and easy to install however the dash top crash pad is in perfect condition. The trim in this car is certainly neat and tidy enough to make the cabin a pleasant place to travel in however there are of course things that could be done to improve on what I suppose should be considered as a good foundation. MECHANICALS & ON ROAD PERFORMANCE: The XJ dives very nicely with a beautifully soft ride. The car starts well with its manual choke and the 4.2L XK engine revs feely without any undue top end noise. The car maintains good oil pressure and always seems to hold a consistent, correct operating temperature. All power windows work correctly (though of course are a little slow) and the power steering and brakes both feel right. The car is fitted with 4 quality tyres in the correct profile which is a nice bonus for the next owner. Interestingly, the XJ has not left oil stains on the floor where it has been parked. The previous owner recently took the car on a 600km round trip from To summarise, this XJ seems to be a very sound older restoration. In my estimation it would be best suited to someone looking for a classic XJ that can be driven and enjoyed, but in which further possible investment would not be wasted. Given the relative rarity of this vehicles specification and its early build number, I would think it a worthy recipient of any enthusiasts time and money. As mentioned previously, I advise and welcome any interested party to come and take the car for a test drive themselves or to send a friend, relative or mechanic in to inspect it on your behalf – being interstate is certainly no excuse! As I say in every one of my listings: common sense should tell you that my personal opinions reflected in the above listing and 12 digital photographs are no substitute for your own detailed inspection and test drive. I have no idea what would be required of this vehicle to pass a RWC – I am not a mechanic so I can not speak to this subject with any authority. BE UNDER NO ILLUSION IN YOUR DECISION TO BID – HAVE IT INSPECTED! All personal and/or mechanical inspections are invited and most welcome prior to auctions close.
