A Fine old 4/4 Violin in very good condition
Grafted Neck
Labelled
Bohemian
Artist Buffalo NY
This fine violin is one of those question marks. it bears an early American trade Label, but was imported to the USA sometime in the eraly 1800's, as the grafted scroll attests to. The scroll and the bouts of this violin look Italian in character, with the scroll carved deeply up the throat. The label says Bohemian, which could signify it was made there, or could be a model name, who knows.
2 small cracks, masterly repaired, and a masterly repair to pegbox.

This fine 4/4 violin, is in very good condition, having only two cracks on the table, a small wing crack, masterly repaired, and a small crack along the fingerboard near the top of the violin, both professionally repaired, and a master repair to the peg box.I would say this violin is most likely a trade violin, as stated above, made, around 1800, and sold new in Buffalo New York. The wood is in Excellent condition, with The front made of straight even fine grain spruce. The back is from two piece broadly figured maple, ascending slightly towards the middle, nicely made. A Fine choice of wood. The front and back have handmade inlaid purfling, very finely done, and the violin is fully lined. Scroll is well cut, and deep. The F holes have been superbly cut. This violin has been fully checked and set up. It has a new French bridge, the sound post has been set, the fingerboard has been refurbished, has a all ebony fittings, and the pegs have been perfectly set for easy tuning. It has new Wittner fine tuners, and has been fitted with a new set of Pirastro Obligato Strings.Varnish is totally original, a wonderful rich brown, and in very good condition.
A fine choice of wood
This violin is all set up ready to play. It has a strong, mellow tone, typical of violins from this period, filled with warmth and feeling, not brash, rich, with overtones coming quickly. This violin is not a powerhouse. The tone has depth , and very good resonance, plays well in all positions. Has good sustain. Violin has been play checked by a member of The Australian Pops orchestra.
