A History of Flight

by Courtlandt Canby

"In A History of Flight Courtlandt Canby brilliantly relates the

whole story of flight, from the first foolish birdmen, through the

designs of da Vinci, the experiments of Cayley, von Zeppelin,

Santos-Dumont, Curtis, the Wrights (and many others), to the

amazing progress made in aviation during the twentieth century.

In concise, highly readable prose Mr. Canby explains not only the

technological evolution of aviation, but also the uses to which it has

been put. He traces the development of air power for war and for

commercial transport, and shows the connections between the

evolution of flight and the great historical events of our time."  (front flap)

Fifty-six pages of illustrations - many in full color - including

diagrams, drawings, designs, plans, posters, and photographs,

compose a beautiful picture-history to accompany the text.

A History of Flight makes engrossing reading for people of all

ages and tastes.

A First British Edition published in 1964, this hardcover book is in exceptional condition for its age. The pages are clean and unmarked, and the binding is tight. There is however, light foxing to the back endpaper and flyleaf. The front and back boards are also in excellent condition with all corners square and no sign of bumps. The only 'blemish' is a light mark to the bottom edge of the front board. There is no dust jacket. Overall, a good clean copy in excellent reading condition...
