A History of Melbourne High School
HONOUR THE WORK
ALLEN INCH
Melbourne High Schoool has been at Forrest Hill in south Yarra for 50 yrs. However, the schools history predates the move to this site by many years - formative years during which the foundations were laid for the unique status and distinctive spirit of the school today
This book traces the evolution of Melbourne High School with particular reference to those early years. It also considers its position within the broader context of secondary education in Victoria for, as the first State high school, Melbourne High played an important role in the development of the State education system in the early decades of this century.
It is a very readable book and examines the vital contributions made by interested and enthusiastic people - principals, staff, pupils and ex-pupils over the years - for they have been a fundamental factor in the school's continuing success on so many levels.
