It is my privilege to present this delightful A.M. Boyd Pin Dish bearing a hand painted bush scene by the noted artist Neil Douglas. This is a classic example of Douglas’s work; a bush scene with a a of Kangaroos in full flight. Neil Douglas bush scenes depicting Kangaroos are hard to find.

This piece is not signed by Neil Douglas, but there can be no doubt to him painted this iconic piece of Australian pottery. Incised into the base is the A.M. Boyd makers’ mark that was in use from 1944 until 1962.

Arthur Boyd set up A.M. Boyd Pottery (named after his grandfather Arthur Merric Boyd) in 1944 and it was in production until circa 1962. Arthur Boyd is one of Australia’s foremost artists of his era and without a doubt the Boyd family are the first family of Australian art. Many of Australia’s greatest names of art worked at this pottery, amongst the most famous of these are Neil Douglas, John Perceval and John Howley.

This magical pin dish has a diameter of 10 cm (4”).

Condition

It is in EXCELLENT condition; with no chips, cracks stains or repairs and no crazing. There are a couple of glaze misses near the rim (see close up photo of these production flaws below).

This will be a very sought after item. Make no mistake, A.M. Boyd items hand painted by Neil Douglas are very sought after.
