In the chaotic and cruel years of Australia's early history, convicts escaped from chain-gangs and prison cells to seek survival and refuge in the hostile bush. Bushrangers is divided into three eras, the initial settlement, followed by crime induced by the gold rushes, and a final section covering the rise and fall of bush ranging in the 1860s and 70s, with much about Ned and the Kelly gang, and the romantic outlook, until bush ranging ceased to be popular.
