A Small Tall Tale from the Far Far North written & illustrated by Peter Sis * * * FIRST EDITION * * * PUBLISHED DATE - 1993 PUBLISHED BY - Alfred A. Knopf, New York BINDING - hardcover with dust jacket PAGES - unpaginated DIMENSIONS - 28cm x 25cm WEIGHT - 530 grams (unpacked) DESCRIPTION / SYNOPSIS One hundred years ago a young man named Jan Welzl left his home in Europe and headed for the Far North. He rode off in an horse-drawn cart, traded the cart for a sled pulled by reindeer, and was gone for thrity years. Like Robinson Crusoe, he turned adversity into adventure and the wilderness into a dream, where anything could happen and anyone could be a hero. Inspired by the memoirs of this Czech folk hero, Peter Sis has re-created an extraordinary Arctic odyssey. Mixing fact with tall tale and Welzl's own words, he paints the fascinating story of a little-known explorer and the Exkimos who became his teachers and his friends. With maps, storyboards, panoramas, and even an Eskimo myth told in pictographs, Peter Sis has concocted a visual feast. A Small Tall Tale from the Far Far North charts unexplored territory in the world of picture books. CONDITION OF BOOK This book is in VERY GOOD complete reading condition.
