Here is sweet little Sammy with her paw in a pink bandage.
She suffered from painful burns to
her paws during our devastating bush fires in Victoria early this year.
As the weeks pass, her healing (and the healing of her
shelter mates)is improving..due to the dedication
 of all the carers at Southern Ash Wildlife Shelter.
UPDATE ON SAM:   Sam's burnt paws are healing well and are no longer bandaged.
She is now in an outdoor enclosure with other koalas,
and her health and strength improve as the months pass.
She is being treated for an eye condition, but this is the only remaining health concern.
Sam has a good appetite, apparently demanding only the choicest gum leaf tips!

*** 6/8/09  Sad News today ~ Our dear little Aussie Sam, due to undergo surgery to remove cysts associated with a severe chlamydia infection,
 was put to sleep. The disease had caused inoperable changes to some organs and it was decided not to let her continue to endure the pain.
Sam was nursed and cared for all these months and was well on the way to being released back into the bush.
The carers at the Shelter will obviously be devastated..
and this sudden, sad and unexpected news will affect all who still have that touching image of her with Mr Tree in our minds.

I am donating to the
Southern Ash Wildlife Shelter (SAWS) in Rawson,
 Victoria, Australia.
I will provide a receipt for the donation & send with the art to the winning bidder
 if you don't mind waiting a few days after auction for me to arrange this.

As everyone will know by now, Sam the koala was rescued by firefighter David Tree,
and the video images were beamed all over the world.
Photos of Mr Tree giving water to Sam have been sold to raise funds for the CFA.
Colleen Wood and other carers are treating Sam for burns and over 40 others like her, at the Southern Ash Wildlife Shelter (SAWS).
They are in desperate need of donations to assist with the day to day costs of caring for these wonderful animals.

At the moment the kitchen is used as 'the operating theatre', and due to lack of outside enclosures,
 some koalas are being housed in the family room. Funds are needed to build new housing, medical supplies and ongoing care.
All the carers work voluntarily, so money is put directly towards Sam and her friends needs.
Sam's carers (angels) must have an exhausting daily routine... and the care of these koalas will take many months
 until they are healed enough to be released back into the bush... and as so much of their habitat has been burnt in the fires,
relocating has its own problems.
This is why I decided to draw Sam... even the smallest of donations will help.

Measuring 2.5 in. X 3.5 inches.

This ACEO is printed on Premium photo paper plus,
using a Canon printer & Chromalife100 inks.
To further protect the image,
it is spray coated with a satin varnish,
which gives the print a durable, moisture-proof surface.

It is initialed on the front, and signed, dated and titled on the back.
A light coat of fixative is applied for protection.
It will be shipped inside an acid free trading card sleeve, inside a rigid top-loader.
I use cardboard to protect it from bending,
and also place it in a plastic bag
in case of wet weather or dark and stormy nights.
