This is one great antique camera. I bought it originally in about 1966, and it was nearly 100 years old then. Certainly not your average studio camera. It has a double-extension bellows that takes it over a metre from lens to back.
Height is just over 500mm, width at the front is 350mm and 450mm wide at the back. It comes with five [5] 6"x4" double dark slides, a 5"x4" & 7"x5" backs. A matte box can be inserted into the back enabling two [2] shots to be
done on one sheet of film. As you will see, it is probably one of the earliest cameras to have back movements. The "ILEXPO" lens, made by the "ILEX OPTICAL COMPANY" of New York still works perfectly, even though the blades
don't close perfectly I used it in my business from 1968 till about 1980 for doing copy work. At the time I purchased a new "Apo-Ronar' for it, but found the old "Voigtlander" lens to be just as good. It will blow up a postage
stamp to virtually fill a 5"x4" image. It is in superb condition for its age, now about 150 years old, and would make a beautiful addition for a collector. The last image is taken from a Time/Life series of books that came out in 1970,
and shows the exact model of the camera taken in 1860 [that's how I was able to date it.] The only thing now missing is the squeeze thing for opening and closing the shutter, it perished years ago. Evidently this camera, made of Cherrywood, I believe came as a timber finish and a grey painted finish. Fortunately this is the timber. I have cleaned up the brass work and put furniture polish on the timber, but otherwise it hasn't been touched. There are a couple
of burn marks on the top of the front, where some twit rested his/her cigarette, but apart from that, it is in fabulous condition and still can be used to take photographs. I will be sad to see it go, as it brings back many fond memories.
