Item specifics
Condition: UsedBrand: AKG
Product Type: Dynamic Microphone

AKG D224E dynamic microphone with clip, wind guards and box.

This microphone is in good condition with the exception of a small dent on the upper part of the body (doesn't show on the photos). This in no way effects the performance.

The microphone has a low frequency rolloff switch giving "0db", "-7db" and "-12db" at 50Hz (doesn't show very well on photo but is the ring at the lower part of the body) and is fitted with an XLR connector.

The mic is in its original box with the original paperwork including test plots (see photo). It comes with an AKG SA40 stand clip and dual windguards because of it's dual capsules (see below). The top windguard is not the correct guard and a guard piece has been added to fill the centre hole. This does not seem to detract from its performance.

The mic has been tested and sounds fine.

The D224 is a unique dynamic mic with a high frequency capsule at the top of the mic and a low frequency capsule at the bottom (hence the two wind guards). The two are combined via a crossover similar to a two way loudspeaker.

It has a 'cardioid pattern' and as can be seen from the 180 degree response plot, the dual capsule system has much more uniform response at the back than most dynamic mics and because the LF capsule is at the bottom of the mic there is a much reduced proximity effect.

Because of the dual capsules this mic can be used, with careful positioning, to record many variations to the usual sound of instrument etc.

It also had a good frequency response (see photo of chart) and was said to be "as good as a condensor mic" when you didn't have phantom power!
