In a rare move we are offering a selection of vehicles previously earmarked for showroom stock for unreserved wholesale auction to clear much needed space for new vehicles arriving.  This gorgeous, bespoke, flagship Alfa Romeo 166 V6 is one such vehicle.

Launched in 1998 and on sale until 2007, the 166 was the replacement for the Alfa 164 and stood as the company’s flagship saloon for nearly a decade.

Designed in house and under the control of Walter de’Silva (also responsible for the 156 and other models), the 166 is an extremely bespoke, elegant luxury saloon with typical Alfa design flair.  There is NOTHING like a 166 on the road, even today, and there are few saloons with such commanding road presence.  These are truly beautiful vehicles

The example on offer, a range topping 166 Super, features a full Momo sports leather interior, an automatic transmission, climate control air conditioning, alloy wheels, remote central door locking, ICS (Integrated Control System) with colour screen, cruise control, power windows, dual front and side impact airbags and much, much more.

Priced at a substantial $75,000 + on road costs when new, the Alfa 166 is truly a unique luxury vehicle and one that makes excellent sense in today’s economic climate.

First registered on the 27^th of August 1999 by John Briggs Alfa Romeo, Brisbane, this 166 is believed to have been with just 2 owners since new and remains an extremely impressive example of the breed.

Having now covered around 185,000k’s, this 166 remains in a condition that is considered a cut above most others – it presents and performs exceptionally well.

Given the rather subjective nature of older vehicle assessment, your personal inspection is advised.  In this way, you may form your own opinions of the car and can judge whether or not it will live up to your expectations.

As a guide, my opinions of the car and its condition are as follows

COACHWORK:  Is in excellent condition and belies the cars age and mileage.  Aside from an occasional and very minor imperfection found under close examination, there is nothing to prevent this car being classed as ‘immaculate’.  The paint work is superb with an excellent, deep gloss and a uniform factory finish.  I can find no evidence of previous accident repair nor is there any corrosion.  All panels seem to line up and fit well and all external trims are in excellent order.  On balance, a superb example sure to impress anyone.

TRIM & INTERIOR:  Is STUNNING – the photos do it NO justice.  The hides are butter-soft, the seats are beautifully shapely and suffer no heavy scuffing, cracking, pinching or tears, the carpets are lovely, the door trims are perfect, the hood lining is excellent and the dash shows no UV fatigue.  The cabin of this 166 is an incredibly beautiful place to spend time and feels extremely special – everything is beautiful to the touch and the build quality and craftsmanship is second to none.  The only way to really understand how special this car is is to make time to come and see it in person – it is well worth it.

MECHANICALS & ON ROAD PERFORMANCE:  The 166 is a natural, effortless performer and is a delight on every level – it sounds superb, the steering is very sharp, the brakes are fantastic, the gearbox is beautiful and the chassis with double wishbone suspension ensures the big saloon handles more like a nimble sports car though with an ultra-refined ride.  The Alfa starts easily, it runs superbly, there is no smoke, it maintains correct operating temperature, the air conditioning is very cold, the integrated control system works beautifully with a very easy to read and use screen, the audio system is superb and I can find nothing to fault with the cars road manners.  Bolstered by such a well documented history of routine service and maintenance, I would not hesitate to drive this car interstate and, having used it personally, find it a rewarding and thoroughly pleasurable drive.

This is a particularly rare opportunity to acquire a beautifully presented, properly maintained classic Alfa flagship saloon.  Of course a realistic approach to what is now a 10 year old car is required however this is simply common sense.

As mentioned previously, I advise and welcome any interested party to come and take the car for a test drive themselves or to send a friend, relative or mechanic in to inspect it on your behalf – being interstate is certainly no excuse!  As I say in every one of my listings: common sense should tell you that my personal opinions reflected in the above listing and 12 digital photographs are no substitute for your own detailed inspection and test drive.
