For your consideration, here is a fabulous antique Asian aesthetic pickle caster by Derby Silver Co. The frame is 11-1/2 inches tall and 4-5/8 inches across the feet. The top of the arch is decorated with a figural owl and Asian fan with impressed bamboo and leaf decoration, flanked by bronze tone leaf bunches. The base ring of the caster is bursting with raised floral decoration surrounding horseshoe cameos of flying insects, a snail, cricket, and spiders on webs. The four feet have raised scroll decoration and the two tab handle anchors have an open floral decoration. Not to be outdone, the jar itself, with a raised conical finial, has a raised decoration of storks flying and standing in shallow pools, with ferns, reeds, and hills in the background. The 7-1/4 inch long tongs have leaf shaped graspers and attached floral decoration. The caster is in good overall condition, however, there is a chip on the outer rim of the jar, a dent in the base ring of the holder, three broken solder joints at the top arc where fan handle, leaf, and crossbar attach to the handle loop, and a re-soldered joint at the base of the handle beneath the owl. It is stamped under the base ring with Derby Silver Co. of Derby Connecticut, and Quadruple Plate. A rare opportunity. |
