This is a charming miniature, most likely a European 19th C reproduction of an earlier work. It is signed, in red, Silver, and painted on what I think is celluloid. The old red plush covering on the back was already badly torn (maybe by someone trying to see what this was painted on) and so I removed the painting and clean the very dirty glass and establish same. I have now stuck it back down the best I can. On removing the portrait, I could photo the signature, which is hidden under the gold oval. The frame is a burr walnut veneer and in excellent order. The painting is exquisite. I have not been able to identify the sitter but, for those in the know of these things, there is a pencilled DEG on the back of the paper inside. That may mean something to someone. The lady is a beauty, with a feathered hat and loops of pearls on her dress – very Gainsborough in style. The miniature measures 85mm x 65mm inside the gold oval. The frame itself is 165mm x 145mm.
As far as the new Buyers Protection is concerned, for those in doubt, please do check my feedback. I have yet to find that I cannot “protect” my buyers all on my own! It is that simple. This is my job, I am an honest and reliable seller. If I have stuffed up, then it is up to ME, not eBay or PayPal, to fix it. And I have always done so with a good grace, I hope!
