This is a large Silky Oak three-door bookcase / display cabinet in excellent condition.

It has five layers of display including the base. 

Attractively designed doors and flowing top timbers add to this cabinet’s old world charm.  The colour gives this well grained silky oak cabinet a sense of warmth also.

The shelves are 875mm long and 400mm deep in the two-door section.  The shelves are 385mm long and 400mm deep in the single door area. 

The spaces between shelves are adjustable at 150mm intervals, which is great for accommodating different sized books.

The shelves are made from 6mm glass and have had all sharp edges removed for safety.  The shelves are very strong and can take the weight of books, a full set of encyclopedia may perhaps be inadvisable, but certainly a mix of books and objects would be no problem at all.  Additional shelves can be made to order, $45.00 per large and $25 per small.

The cabinet has solid brass supports, which, fit into sleeves of brass inserted into the timber for added strength, see the photos.  Also note the chamfer given to the glass shelves edges.

The wood finish is in excellent condition.  A traditional stain of VanDyk Crystals has been used which is made from walnut husks and results in a rich brown colour.  The cabinet has then been finished in traditional shellac (French Polish).

Having glass doors not only affords good visibility of your books or display items, it helps immensely with keeping the dust out.

The cabinet is structurally sound and probably dates to the 40’s.

Both parts of the cabinet can be locked; the locks are solid brass and are in perfect working order. 

I personally really like the handles as they have a barley twist applied to the drop pendant part. The handles are original old ones and in good condition.

The back of the cabinet is solid timber, VJ boards, no plywood.

Overall dimensions for this cabinet are 1870mm tall, 1335mm wide and 460mm deep.

In all this is a great cabinet in excellent condition.  It has over 16 square feet of space, that’s a lot of books and china.
