A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE
STAR AND PARAGON POTTERIES
OF STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND
( PARAGONPOTTERY.COM )
No longer in production the Company was absorbed into the Royal Doulton Group
and the name discontinued in 1993
Such was the success and popularity of the Paragon trade name that in 1919 the Company changed its name to THE PARAGON CHINA COMPANY.
In the 1920s and 1930s the company was at the forefront of the Art Deco style. The trio shown on the right is in a shape known as the Duchess and was one of the lines completing with Shelly and Aynsley for the most up to date production of the period.
In 1972 Paragon along with Royal Albert became part of the Royal Doulton Group. Paragon continued to produce under its own name, although the style and patterns were mostly floral and pretty rather than the more striking designs of the 30s and 40s.
Both the Victoriana Rose above and the Contessa shown here are clearly influenced by the style of Royal Albert.
By the late 80s the patterns of Paragon China had been
incorporated within Royal Doulton and by the end of the 80s the name was discontinued.
However the company managed to retain its Royal connections right up to the end, and commemoratives such as those shown below are still very sought after.
