Description: This DVD contains 4 episodes:
EPISODE 9
This time the Leylands take a look at a real old style family mansion. The property of Killarney in Central Victoria. In Tasmania they visit a remote tin mine. A small operation on the relative wilderness regions of the Tasmanian mountains where the pioneering spirit of Australia’s forefathers still burns fierce in the hearts of the Tassie mountain men. The deadly Tiger Snake forms the wildlife part of this episode as the Leylands film not only one of Australia’s most feared reptiles but, one of the rarest individual snakes of the world. The only Albino Tiger Snakes ever known. The snake is kept in captivity of a reptile park in Warrnambool Victoria where the curator, Barry Searle, shows the Leylands how they kill and how to milk their venom for antivenene manufacture.
EPISODE 10
Even the mosquito has an interesting life cycle. In this segment we learn why mosquitoes bite and in the extreme close up photography we see amazing scenes of these creatues developing from the egg right through to adult. The historic story of Port Arthur in Tasmania provides a brief but photogenic look at this notorious penal settlement, now a ruins in Tasmania. Finally off to the north west to see how the longest train in the world carries amazing tonnage of iron ore in the Hamersley Ranges of Western Australia. We see how this remarkable complex of trains are kept under control by computerized technology in the wild frontier country of the north west.
EPISODE 11
The hottest town in Australia, Marble Bar, in Western Australia attracts the Leylans cameras as they look at how the town gets its name and just how hot it can get in this remote part of tropical Western Australia. In Victoria we look at the work of a remarkable man who decorated his home with thousands of seashells in mosaic fashion just to keep himself occupied in his retiring years. It presents an amazing effort by one man and attracts many visitors who have contributed donations to the Salvation Army who now look after this remarkable monument of toil. The appealing wombat is the subject for the children in this episode as the Leylands travel to the wilderness regions of Tasmania to find out how to catch a wild wombat and tame it for a pet. From the action of catching a wild wombat for the Launceston Wildlife Sanctuary to the process of taming it.
EPISODE 12
A sheep station in Western NSW is the venue for an unusual story about an Emu that is part of the family on the property. Beep, the Emu was hatched from his egg on the kitchen stove and has grown up with the property children as just part of the family. The famous coloured sands of Teewah in Queensland provide an amazing colourful subject for the Leylands cameras. Mount Tom Price and the huge iron ore mining operation there in Hamersley’s of Western Australia is the final fascinating subject in this episode. The large scale mining operation is shown including a rare scene of the actual blasting of the ore when an immense column of earth and dust is blown high into the sky.
