An attractive example of the first penny struck by the Calcutta branch of the Royal Mint for Australia.

The impact of World War I on Australia's circulating coinage was significant - mintages rose and fell according to the changing fortunes of the economy, and production was re-routed from the Royal Mint in London and the Heaton Mint in Birmingham to the Calcutta branch of the Royal Mint in India.

This example is certainly among them - the obverse and reverse rims are strong, and there's even wear on both sides of the coin. The obverse shows all of the detail in the centre diamond and further the 7th & 8th pearls are evident, so we grade this coin as good Very Fine condition.
