15,000 pcs only - limited edition (rare). With First Day Cancel (FDC)
Description: As a part of the 2004 Tasmanian bi-centennial celebrations Australia Post purchased this letter to Mary & donated it to the Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery where is is currently displayed. Inside this cover is a transcript of James' love letter to Mary. The mysterious love story is a remarkable part of Australian history. This copy of James' letter, produced at half the size of the original exhibits the love of a husband devasted by the imprisonment of his beloved wife. In 1841 Mary Walsh, an Irish woman, was convicted & sentenced to seven years in the penal colony of Tasmania. Her youngest child went with her, but her two older children & her adoring husband James, were left behind. A copy of the letter is attached to the envelope in front in a plastic pouch
