SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN TURKEY IN 1985
This Authentic Old Village Created Pile Rug From the Melas Region of South West Anatolia Has a Hand Spun, Locally Grown Wool Pile Symmetrically Hand Knotted to hand Spun Local Wool Warps and Wefts and Displays an Extremely Well Balanced Design of Primitive Tree Type in the Field Surrounded by Geometric Star Shaped Borders.
I Purchased this Rug when it Already had Age while Traveling for 6 weeks around Turkey in 1985. I Wrote many Travel Articles about that Trip and Have Included Two Photos from My Book which Were Published along with many others in a Number of Travel Magazines in the 1980s. This Excellent Example Measures 1.47m x 0.95m (4ft 10 inches x 3ft 1 inches) and is in Very Good Condition for its Age with Full Pile. See Photos.
Even in the 1980s the Difference in Rugs Knotted in the Region at the Time and Those, Like this One of 20 years Earlier could be Seen as the Organisation of Commercial Weaving was In Progress. This is a Genuine Village Hand Knotted Turkish Rug and Displays the Unique Charm and Character of Rugs from this Region and Era which Can Not be Found in Later Examples.
All our Rugs Are Old and Antique not the usual Ebay Miss Described Modern Copies. Many are Over 100 years Old, so they show the signs of this age as rugs are made to walk on. We can not describe every mark of use. We provide a picture of the entire rug and it is up to you to assess its condition from our pictures. A NOTE ON PHOTOS
We try to take photos which reproduce the colours of the rug as close as possible. As is obvious none are taken in a studio. We have tried to provide a few different tones and extremes and the actual colours are somewhere in between.
This is a Genuine Village Knotted Melas Region Pile Rug from the South West of Turkey Created in the 1960s. BIDDERS CAN BE CONFIDENT IN OUR DESCRIPTIONS AND KNOWLEDGE OF ORIENTAL RUGS. I have been collecting and dealing in Antique Oriental Rugs for over 25 years, wrote a book which was published in Australia in 1991 by Kangaroo Press, entitled A Guide to Oriental Rugs, ISBN number is 0-86417-375-X, and this book can be found in many Australian libraries. I have also written a large number of articles for Australian and International magazines on the subject.
