Ancient China: The discoveries of post-liberation Chinese archaeology by William Watson.  Paperback book published by New York Graphic Society 1974, 108 pages with black and white and some colour photographs as well as some black and whit illustrations. A new era has opened our knowledge of the Chinese past (1974) as the scholarship of post-revolutionary Chinese  archaeology has recently come to the West through remarkable exhibitions of objects of art. The new finds­ - bronzes, ceramics, fabrics, and works in jade -­ all uncovered through carefully controlled scientific methods, have made possible a coherent picture of the development of Chinese art. Firm dates can now be given to previously doubtful works in Western collec­tions. The beauty of the objects themselves and the significance of their documentation has captured the public imagination, as did the Egyptian discoveries of another great period of archaeological history.  This book is a sympathetic and lively study of these newly found treasures. The illustrations show many of the pieces exhibited in London in 1973, and a wide range of other works are drawn upon to explain their significance. By relating the works of art to what is known of the society that produced them, the author also presents an introduction, through archaeology, to the whole span of Chinese history. This book is in good condition.  The cover is in good condition.  There is some wear to the edges, corners (some bumping) and to the top and bottom of the spine.  There is some creasing.  There is shelf wear overall as well as some marks and scuffs. There is some fading mainly to the spine and some of the edges.  The book itself is in very good condition.  There are a few very minor marks to the outer edges.  There is some slight wear to the corners. The front endpaper has a name and date written on it.  There is some minor yellowing of the pages.  Overall a good copy.

At the end of the auction I will send you an invoice with postage this may take a few hours (or minutes) depending on my schedule.  Please do not pay until I have sent you an invoice.

I post up to 5 times a week, excluding Saturday and Sunday.   I generally post within 24 hours of receiving payment (excluding weekends and public holidays).

AUSTRALIAN BUYERS (postage within Australia):

Books can be heavy.

0 to 250g   Items under 250g will be posted as a parcel or a large letter depending on size.  This means postage will be between $1.10 and $4.35.

250g to 500g   Postage will be $5.60

500g +  A parcel post satchel (up to 3kg) is $9.90 to anywhere within Australia.  This is the cheapest option for items over 500g or multiple items interstate (usually 3 to 4 books depending on size).  Within Victoria postage is cheaper depending on where you are.  For large items, heavy or multiple items please email me for a price on postage.

Pick up is possible by arrangement.
