The African Sahara wasn't always the desolate desert as we know it today. 6,000 years ago there were no dunes of sand.
The temperature was milder. And the rains came regularly.
Instead of sand as far as the eye could see there were forests, savannas and rivers.
The land was covered in ponds and lakes. Game, both large and small thrived.
Man in small groups of hunter-gatherers roamed the country feeding their families, waging their battles.
The word Neolithic is from the Greek neos ("new") and lithos ("stone"). The Neolithic Period, or New Stone Age, refers to the second part of the stone age, and represents the time when stone and horn tools were refined by grinding and polishing. During this period there was also the beginning of pottery and some use of copper. Man also first tamed wild animals, used the wheel, weaved, and started to cultivated crops.
Arrowheads are typically collected and traded by the local nomadic peoples of the Sahara, they find them as the sand dunes move and they travel around seasonally grazing their herds. Finding and collecting items such as these provides them with a reasonable, stable income.
