Antique Composition & Cloth Doll Sleep eyes

Over the next few months I will be listing a lot of antique, vintage and collectable items from my mother's estate as unfortunately I cannot keep them all. I will also be downsizing my antique doll collection.

Up for auction is a very unusual 17 inch antique composition boy doll. He has a very appealing composition head with flange neck which is in very good condition, no crazing . No markings on the back of his neck so don't know who made him, but on the bottom of his left shoe it is stamped JAPAN.He has blue sleep eyes with all of his upper eyelashes. His cheeks are nicely blushed and and he has a red closed mouth and red nose and eye dots .His hair is moulded in curls . He has cloth body which is solid but age discoloured and the stitching has been re-enforced at the joins of arms and legs in a brown cotton.He has a ma-ma in his tummy but it no longer works. Body is filled with excelsior (wood shavings) His arms and legs have paint loss. It is very unusual to get a doll this size with childrens legs and painted on socks and shoes.They could be touched up easily but I like my dolls original so will leave it up to the buyer to do so if they wish. His outfit is not original, but suits him well. White cotton blouse and red overalls with black belt.  He  would make a lovely addition to your antique doll collection.
