Gabriel, a Chilean man brought up in New York City, is haunted by his father Christobal's notorious way with women: He once made a bet that he would sleep with a different woman every day for 25 years, and he is apparently winning it. When Gabriel--who is not only impotent but still, at 25, a virgin--finally returns to Chile, he hopes to discover the secrets of Christobal's virility, all the while plotting his own suicide in the Chilean Pavilion at the 1992 World Expo.
