Jazz drummer Art Blakey took an important part into "hard-bop" history, not only by playing on numerous records but most of all by founding a band named The Jazz Messengers in 1954.  Up until 1980, this band allowed dozens of young jazz musicians to sharpen their skills before most of them went onto form their own successful careers.

This is a great compilation CD of some of his best pieces.
