Art Deco Danish Cohr silver plate cutlery set orchid

This set is in very good condition.

The set comprises 6 dinner forks, 6 dessert spoons and 6 rare hollow handled knives. There is also a hollow handled serving piece with a stainless steel serving section.

The pieces are in a beautiful pattern with stylised flowers that look like a type of orchid.  Some are marked with the Danish twin tower assay mark for silver plate used from around 1890 until 1927. Others are marked with the FDG silver quality torch mark used until 1932. All the pieces are marked with the maker's mark ATLA for Cohr silver used around 1926. All these marks can be viewed at the Cohr webpage below.

Cohr silver

The knives to this set are rare. To find any of the hollow handled knives for the Danish Art Deco sets is a bonus. They are difficult to find, even on the Danish websites they are a scarcity and come at a premium. The knives sell for at least AU$30.00 each and can sell for as much as $60.00 each depending on the availability of pattern types.

The pieces have fine scratches from use. One knife has a series of small indents to a patch on the handle as if a child has repeatedly banged it against a table. This patch is circled in the photos. There are two other pin head sized dents on two other knives. One of the forks has the earlier marking and varies slightly in dimensions. The edge tines to this fork are slightly worn and are shorter than they should be. This is only noticed when the pieces are stacked on each other. There are scratches to the back of the tines on all the forks but no wear to the silver plate. The small server has a gap between the handle and the serving section as shown. One knife blade has a small grey spot to the tip of the blade as shown.

The large dinner knives are 245mm long, the dinner forks are 210mm long and the dessert spoons are 180mm long.

  The set weighs 1.3 kilos.

A set of horn or bone handled knives would complement this set.

For North American users a handy guide is 25mm or 2.5cm is a little less than 1 inch, so 100mm or 10cm is just less than 4 inches.

Please note this is a genuine item and not a reproduction.
